This one does not disappoint in the flavor department. If you find yourself bored with the same boring burger, then you must try this recipe. This means it will take on the flavor of whatever seasonings you choose to use for the recipe you are making. For instance, here, since it’s a Mexican chicken burger, I chose cumin and smoked paprika to bring that Mexican flavor profile forward. When choosing ground chicken, check for 90% lean. This is because typically packaged poultry is made from dark meat, and the skin is added in. 90 % lean ground chicken is made from ground breast meat instead of dark meat. MEXICAN CHICKEN BURGER RECIPE
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 pound ground chicken
- 1 tablespoon cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 2 tablespoons chopped cilantro
- 1 tablespoon lime juice
- 2 cloves of garlic, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup salsa
- 2 tablespoons black beans
- 1 egg
OPTIONAL ADDITIONAL TOPPINGS
- Sliced avocado
- Jalapeno peppers
- Sliced red onion
- Pineapple slices
- Mango slices
Firstly, in a large bowl, combine the ground chicken, garlic, cumin, onion powder, paprika, cilantro, lime juice, egg, and salsa. Combine the mixture thoroughly.
Next, fold in 2 tablespoons of black beans. Form into 5 to 6 burger patties.
Then heat the 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a grill pan. Grill the chicken patties for 6-7 minutes on each side until cooked through.
Finally, serve the chicken burgers on hamburger buns. If you want to ditch the bun, you can serve on lettuce leaves or on top of sweet potato toast. Top with any of your toppings of choice below.
