If you add in healthy fats, smoothie bowls can help keep you full for hours. This is especially important if you have a busy morning filled with meetings until lunchtime. This blueberry flax smoothie has been on my lunch menu several times a week.

A tightly arranged group of carbs, proteins, and antioxidants can help you get your day started properly, and give you energy throughout the entire day. There are so many choices, which means your smoothie bowls are never unexciting. Smoothie bowls help satisfy those sugar cravings to crowd out traditional sugary desserts. I actually prefer this blueberry smoothie recipe over any carb-heavy dessert. Therefore, I know that I nourish my body, and it tastes great too.

Blueberries are a wonderful way to help lower cholesterol. High cholesterol is fairly common among adults these days, but berries of all types can greatly help improve your cholesterol levels. Studies have shown that ingesting berries regularly can have a significant impact on the amount of cholesterol that accumulates in your blood. Hormone balancing smoothies are an easy way to get in the proper nutrients in the beginning of your day.


Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1/2 banana, frozen
  • 1 cup blueberries, frozen
  • 1/2 cup almond milk
  • 2 teaspoons ground flax seed
  • 1 teaspoon cacao nibs, plus 1 additional teaspoon for topping
  • 1 teaspoon goji berries
  • 1 teaspoon unsweetened coconut flakes
  • 2 teaspoons hemp hearts
  • 5 blueberries for topping

Instructions

1. Blend the milk, banana, blueberries in a blender until well combined.

2. Stir in 1 teaspoon ground flax seeds and 1 teaspoon cacao nibs. Pour the mixture into a bowl, and top with blueberries. Sprinkle with hemp hearts, coconut flakes, goji berries, and additional cacao nibs. Enjoy.
