Well, it is actually very easy to do. All you need to do is use a sharp knife and cut off the ends of the lemon, then cut it in half lengthwise.

When you have done that, you need to cut out the white pith from the inside of the lemon. The easiest way to do that is by cutting a V shape in it, and then pulling it out with your fingers.
