Mexican Chicken Burger Bursting with Flavor

The most delicious Mexican chicken burger my family has ever tried. So, the inspiration for this recipe is my dad’s love for chicken burgers. I experimented to create the best chicken burger recipe. This one does not disappoint in the flavor department. If you find yourself bored with the same boring burger, then you must try this recipe. This burger gets its amazing flavor from cumin, smoked paprika, and cilantro. For instance, have you ever tried chicken burgers with pineapple? Talk about a delicious combination.

For example, I love to serve mine on sweet potato toast. In addition, thinly slice the sweet potato and place it into a toaster, just like regular toast. This is the perfect way to add more nutrients. Yum. I wrote an informative article on the health and beauty benefits of sweet potatoes.

There are so many impressive health benefits of chicken. Ground chicken has a mild profile flavor. This means it will take on the flavor of whatever seasonings you choose to use for the recipe you are making. For instance, here, since it’s a Mexican chicken burger, I chose cumin and smoked paprika to bring that Mexican flavor profile forward. When choosing ground chicken, check for 90% lean. This is because typically packaged poultry is made from dark meat, and the skin is added in. 90 % lean ground chicken is made from ground breast meat instead of dark meat. Chicken is a wonderful source of B vitamins, which will help in energy production, as well as help form red blood cells in the body.

MEXICAN CHICKEN BURGER RECIPE

 

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 pound ground chicken
  • 1 tablespoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 2 tablespoons chopped cilantro
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 2 cloves of garlic, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup salsa
  • 2 tablespoons black beans
  • 1 egg

OPTIONAL ADDITIONAL TOPPINGS

  • Sliced avocado
  • Jalapeno peppers
  • Sliced red onion
  • Pineapple slices
  • Mango slices

DIRECTIONS:

STEP 1

Firstly, in a large bowl, combine the ground chicken, garlic, cumin, onion powder, paprika, cilantro, lime juice, egg, and salsa. Combine the mixture thoroughly.

STEP 2

Next, fold in 2 tablespoons of black beans. Form into 5 to 6 burger patties.

STEP 3

Then heat the 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a grill pan. Grill the chicken patties for 6-7 minutes on each side until cooked through.

STEP 4

Finally, serve the chicken burgers on hamburger buns. If you want to ditch the bun, you can serve on lettuce leaves or on top of sweet potato toast. Top with any of your toppings of choice below.
