❓ Why I Love Basil Seed Pudding for Great Gut Health?
Basil seeds, often overshadowed by chia seeds, are a powerhouse of nutrients that offer numerous health benefits. When soaked in water, they swell and form a gel-like consistency, which not only makes them a delightful addition to puddings, but also enhances their ability to support digestion.
Rich in Fiber
Rich in dietary fiber, basil seeds help regulate bowel movements and prevent constipation, making them an excellent choice for maintaining gut health. Additionally, they contain a range of essential minerals like calcium, magnesium, and iron that contribute to overall well-being.
Gut Health Benefits
The cooling effect of basil seeds also helps soothe the stomach lining, thereby reducing inflammation and discomfort. Their high antioxidant content helps combat oxidative stress, promoting a healthier gut environment.
Incorporating basil seed pudding into your diet is a delicious and effective way to nourish your digestive system and improve gut health over time.
🥣 Ingredients for Strawberry Dragon Fruit Pitaya Basil Seed Pudding Recipe
To make this basil seed pudding recipe, you simply need some basil seeds, strawberries, dragon fruit, sweetener, lime zest, and milk of choice.
- Dragon Fruit - Also known as pitaya. You can buy a whole dragon fruit and scoop out the flesh, or buy prepackaged dragon fruit in your freezer section of the grocery store.
- Strawberries - I prefer strawberries to complement well with the dragon fruit in this basil pudding recipe. They are a more neutral tasting berry, while still adding that sweet berry flavor.
- Basil Seeds - These powerful seeds are great for gut health and are lectin free. Loaded with fiber to support healthy digestion. I like the brand, Zen Basil.
- Milk of Choice - I like unsweetened almond milk the best.
- Maple Syrup - You can swap this out for your favorite sweetener of choice. Stevia also works well. I prefer the maple syrup for a depth of flavor and added minerals.
- Lime Zest - Helps balance the sweetness with a citrus undertone.

❄️ Storage for Pudding Recipe
Store any meal prepped or leftover pudding in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. I like to store in mason jars or meal prep containers.
These ingredients don't freeze well. It's best eaten straight from the fridge.
🥘 Meal Prep Tips
- Batch Preparation - Prepare multiple servings of the pudding at once and store them in individual airtight containers. This ensures you have a ready-to-eat, healthy breakfast or snack throughout the week, saving time and maintaining portion control.
- Layering for Freshness - When assembling the pudding, layer the basil seed mixture and fruit purée without mixing them completely. This method preserves the distinct textures and flavors, providing a more enjoyable eating experience.
- Topping Storage - Keep toppings like fresh fruit, nuts, or seeds separate until you're ready to consume the pudding. This prevents them from becoming soggy and maintains their crunch and freshness.
- Use Mason Jars - Utilize mason jars for storing your pudding. They are portable, easy to seal, and can be used for both preparation and consumption, reducing the need for additional dishes.
By implementing these tips, you can enhance the gut-health benefits of your pudding and streamline your meal preparation process.
Top Meal Prep Tip
Make sure to stir the seed mixture immediately 15 minutes afterward. This ensures the basil seeds don't get lumped together. Use a whisk or even a fork to break up any clumps.
