The main purpose is to get your mind and body into sync, not forgetting your spirit. The good thing about this practice is that you work on one area at a time, but also on all three areas simultaneously.

Doing a lot of exercise will allow you to burn off a lot of calories, tone your body and get healthy. The problem comes in with your mind and soul. You cannot achieve complete health if your mind and soul are not healthy. This is the reason you should apply yoga.
Everybody can benefit in one way or the other through this practice. The best thing about this practice is that it deals with every part of you methodically, and involves communication with yourself and the people out there in the world.

You can however start your session by going to the local classes around your home area, or even register at the gym or any other fitness center.
The reason you should join a class gym or fitness center is that there are experts who will show you how to do it. When experts are around, you will be corrected when you are doing the wrong thing, and prevent any injury.
The best thing about yoga and meditation is that it works on the whole body, both physically and internally, leaving you feeling good.
The practice of yoga can also benefit your sleep quality. You will notice that you fall asleep faster, stay asleep longer, and wake up less frequently during the night.
